Fantastic paint system from Dulux, Sadolin and Sikkens: use a preservative primer onto bare wood and then 2 coats of opaque stain. That's it. The finish starts off satin and gradually weathers to a matt finish over the coating life span. Wash it down and it becomes its own undercoat ready to freshen up. These are low-build coatings so although it is not possible to seen through them the texture of the woodgrain comes through. They are not suitable over already painted surfaces. Available in waterbased and solvent forms, ready-mixed and tinted colours.
