Natural wood, and wood treated with normal oil finishes, without UV-protection will begin to grey quite rapidly.
Until now the only effective protection against the effects of UV on exterior wood have been pigmented finishes that have covered the original colour of the wood (such as Natural Oil Woodstain) now the UV-Protection Oil does just that but in a clear finish!
Osmo UV-Protection Oil contains special, clear ingredients which do not allow the UV-rays to hit the wood surface. As long as the rain or water can run off the wood (vertical surfaces) then the UV-Protection Oil effectively prevents the greying process as a stand-alone finish by UV-protection factor 12 in comparison to untreated wood.
Maintenance cycle
This product is very easy to use and maintain. As soon as you see the finish fading and the wood begin to grey you should think about a rennovation cycle. This may be up to 3-4 years but is highly dependant on the level of weathering. Surfaces receiving lots of sunlight and weather may have much shorter cycles. As the product does not peel or blister maintenance is very easy; just clean the surface and reapply another coat of the product.
Preventing black spotting and mould growth
Although 420 Extra includes a biocide, in particularly bad wet weather you may still experience black spotting or mould growth, especially on Oak. Our advice is to always use the WR basedcoat when dealing with Oak and Douglas Fir.
