Some waxes, oils and varnishes are formulated especially to be tough enough to use on floors. Be realistic about the amount of maintenance you are prepared to do in the aftermath of getting the floor to a state of exquisite newness. Do you vacuum regularly? Small children, dogs, a country lifestyle, a gravel path outside the doors will all play havoc with a floor finish. As a general rule the easier the finish is to apply the more on-going attention it will need afterwards. In context: two full coats of an excellent, high performance floor oil are together not quite as thick as a sheet of printer paper.
