Generally used to provide a flexible seal between two different materials - plaster and wood, wood and cement, glass and wood and so on. Caulks are relatively easy to apply, dry quickly and can be overpainted without sanding. Caulks and sealants for exterior use or for areas of high humidity such as bathrooms normally contain fungicide to prolong the life of the product.
