Athenian Black is a true, deep black developed to reflect the opaque figures and dramatic silhouetted shapes painted on Ancient Greek ceramics.
Oxford Navy is an inky, traditional navy blue which evokes the strong, august blue of academic insignia and fountain pens, as well as the rich pigment indigo blue so synonymous with traditional Indian block printing.

‘Monochrome’, presents six nuanced pairs of black and white shades, tonally formulated to be used together in chic, subtly harmonious relationships.
Each white tone has been carefully selected for its versatility: all six whites can be used as striking, independent, all-over shades, but appear equally effectively as beautiful, plain whites within a scheme of tonal similarity.
Each black tone has been judiciously designed to be used with its monochromatic partner, in lesser or greater proportion, to dramatically change the interplay of light and space in a room, while at the same time effortlessly coordinating with existing materials and surfaces in the interior scheme.
Each white and black pair adopts the hue of the Paint & Paper Library ‘Original’ colour shown alongside it, thus presenting six options of varying undertone, including ochre, pink, warm grey, cool grey, blue and green.
The Natural History Museum in London is a global authority on nature, conservation, and scientific discovery, creating wonder for all who visit. Who better, then, to help Farrow & Ball capture the true colours of the world around us, and to bring those colours into your home?
The dazzling variety of the natural world is evident throughout the Museum, from rocks and precious stones to delicate butterfly wings. But there’s one source in particular that perfectly celebrates the biological diversity and magnificent array of colours behind each display case – kept in the Museum’s rare book library.
The story of the Colour by Nature collection has been over two centuries in the making, beginning with the publication of Werner’s Nomenclature of Colours. A ground-breaking classification of colour in nature, Werner’s Nomenclature recorded in painstaking detail the exact hues and corresponding parts of animals, vegetables and minerals from across the natural world, becoming a treasured resource for scientists and artists alike.
