Every Year, AkzoNobel's Global Aesthetic Centre brings together a group of international experts and trend watchers from across the globe and from various disciplines of design, to pull together what they think the major global developments of colour will be for the next few years.
All of these colours are available in Dulux Trade finishes, which we mix in store for both delivery and collection.
The overall theme for this palette of colours is 'looking both ways'; the advantage of tradition but also modern innovation is seen, and the importance of opposite opinions and views is prevalent. This theme of opposites is clearly visible in the 4 trends below. Heritage & Future, Words & Pictures, Dark & Light, and The Grid & Letting Go.
Golds and gold tones are being used everywhere in the design world. The palette includes Dulux's overall colour of the Year 2016 'Cherished Gold'. (Code 20YY 36/370).
This colour trend is about using inspiration from the past to influence the now. Vintage and antique references contrasting or supporting the modern day.

A picture may paint a thousand words, but with so much visual stimulation these days, are written words valued more? This is the inspiration behind the 2nd theme from Dulux this year.

One of the key trends for 2016 is the importance of darkness, true darkness, in a world with increasing light pollution. Many of the colours in this palette blend seamlessly together, recalling the tones of dusk and dawn, during the 'golden hour'.
