Undercoat

After a suitable primer it is recommended to use an undercoat. The undercoat is another important step in the painting process. It offers protection, durability, and prepares the surface for the topcoat. It also helps build opacity. The end result when you apply the topcoat is a coating that will last longer and look better, so it is well worth doing. If you use an oil based undercoat remember to use an oil based topcoat. It is also recommended to stay within a brand or paint system for best results. Generally one coat is sufficient, but this may vary based on product.
